Bishopstrow is a small community with only a Church and the Village Hall as facilities. It is located approximately two miles from Warminster. It consists of 80 dwellings and about 150 people live in the village. The Village Hall is physically and culturally at the heart of the village.
It has recently been through a major improvement programme: – a new roof – 2016 – a new floor for the main Hall function room – 2016 – a brand new kitchen, with cutlery, crockery and glassware for 60 – 2018 – complete redecoration of the main function room and hallway; new heating and new lighting – 2015 – new audio-visual system (2018), with surround sound, hearing loop and ability to play films, or music lists from laptops and smart phones. wireless mic also available for lectures/talks. The Bishopstrow Hall has recently installed PV panels and battery storage, helping reduce electric bills and do our bit for the planet.
Recent examples of Hall use are: – as a nursery school – a venue for a twice weekly Bridge Club (up to 48 members) – weekly Club meetings (Scottish country dancing; model railway club; dog training sessions; music rehearsals for a youth band; table-tennis club). – other local resident uses (less regular): art and craft lessons (clay modeling most recently); themed dinners (most recently an Italian night); quiz nights; – used for private parties (birthdays, anniversaries, post-funeral teas, small weddings). – other community uses: acts as our Polling Station; is listed as a Safe Centre in the Warminster Community Resilience Plan; used for occasional meetings by the Neighbourhood Police Scheme.
The Village Hall is crucial to the fabric of our village life.
