ABOUT TISBURY & ELIZABETH HALL
The Victoria Hall was built privately, in 1897. It was bought by public subscription as a War Memorial after the First World War. During the Second World War it was used extensively as a cinema showing films to troops stationed in the area including Americans. There is a Victorian period style balcony which has fixed padded seats and is used by audiences at theatrical events. Central heating is by oil which is controlled as appropriate by the Hirer. there is on street Parking and disabled access. The Hallmark Scheme was awarded to the Hall last year. The Elizabeth Hall was converted from a former Fire Station in the 1970’s. It has been used by various organisations since then, including the Tisbury Doctors Surgery for many years and for several years in the 1990’s by the village Pre-School.
ROOMS FACILITIES
Room 1 The Victoria Hall: The main hall seats 190. There is a stage which is fully curtained and well equipped with lighting. Tables and chairs are stacked and stored away from the main floor area. The floor is made of wood and provides a solid surface for dancing. There is a Concourse with a fixed bar and serving area for light refreshments or when hirers have a Temporary Events Licence. All areas are regularly cleaned.
Room 2 The Elizabeth Hall: The hall seats 70. It has a fully carpeted floor and heavy curtains at the windows and covering one wall to help deaden sound and provide a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. It has its own toilets and cloakroom areas and a modern fitted kitchen fully equipped. Chairs and tables are available and kept stored in a small room at the end of the main hall.
Kitchen Facilities: The Victoria Hall – Kitchen, Modern fitted kitchen with ample units for storage of crockery, teapots etc. and good work-surfaces. An electric cooker, larder refrigerator, water boiler and kettle are provided. Hot water for the double washing up sinks and hand wash sink are provided by a separate hot water heater operated by the Hirer.
